Musipedia

Check it out:

http://www.musipedia.org/

In one of my first classes, we talked about these types of databases. You can sing a melody, tap a rhythm, or play it and it will match your data input to its database.... sometimes successfully matching it to the right tune. This can be especially helpful when you have a song stuck in your head and can't for the life of you figure out the name. You can even sing the wrong notes and change them during playback.

Of course, I found it interesting when my professor first mentioned it, but got caught in the death cycle known as full time school and work and haven't had a chance to look it up. However, last night, when I was searching for an article on information retrieval systems in the humanities, I happened upon this website. The databases are still being developed and this one is based on the same layout as wikipedia, so the content can be edited by users (anyone!), which makes it slightly less reliable, but still cool nonetheless.

I know these systems have been around for a while, but I'm kind of behind in my knowledge of technological tools... and I am reminded of that fact daily. :)

Change

It's been a couple of years since I last posted, but it's also been a couple of years since I've had a working computer AND a stable internet connection at my place of residence. However, as of yesterday, a state of harmony in my computing life has been reached. So, here I am.

A lot has changed in the past couple of years as is to be expected. After two years of contemplation, indecision, self-evaluation, reflection, and list-making, I am finally starting a master's degree. It is in information science through the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. I am currently taking my classes online... perhaps because a decision to actually move somewhere would take me another couple of years. Ah, well. As for what I will do when (if?) I graduate? Well, ask me in a few years.
